10 Signs You Might Be a Frugal Mama
At a recent dinner party I attended the husbands were lovingly razzing us Stay at Homes Moms, because we only call them at work to see if we can spend fifteen bucks at Target. One husband wondered out loud how a mom who “stays home” could use so much gas in one week. The wives and I retorted that they should be thankful for having such low maintenance wives and how in the big picture we barely spend money.
One mom and I realized that we don’t even wash our face with proper face wash, because we are so cheap. So this got me thinking about what other things make us frugal mamas.
Here are 10 signs that you might be a Frugal Mama:
1. You wear the same three pair of blue jeans over and over.
2. You love the little red stickers at Target.
3. You buy Easter and Christmas dresses for the next year on clearance the year before.
4. You check the Baby+Kids section of Craigslist everyday looking for deals.
5. You are up early on Saturday mornings hitting the sales in front yards.
6. You talk yourself out of buying the items you picked up while standing in the checkout line.
7. You brag about what you saved in coupons and sales after every trip to the grocery store.
8. You haven’t had a hair cut in six months.
9. You love the challenge of coming in under budget.
10. You don’t buy toys, because you wait for family and friends to buy them for you.

1,2,5,6,8,10! I guess I’m frugal! I’m not always happy about it though.
p.s. Going on 9 months with no haircut.
1, 2, 6, 7 & 10
I guess 5 out of 5 means I am? lol
All but 5 & 8. I guess this is why you and I shop together so much Amanda What I don’t talk myself out of, I know that you will! It’s shopping accountability.
@Dawn – Yeah, I am not always the happiest about it either. My highlights and hair cut usually get moved to the bottom of the budget every month. I REALLY need a cut. My ends are bad.
@Trina – I would say 5 out of 5 makes you a Frugal Mama! It’s funny how we can talk ourselves out of purchasing items.
@Barb – we make a good pair shopping. I remember we spent all that time at the Carter’s Outlet, then while we waiting in line we were like “Nah, let’s go eat.”
Wow, I am so many of those. I LOVE the red stickers at Target and I so brag about how much money I save with coupons. Ha ha. This is great.
I love these! I’m not a SAHM, but I still do so many of these. The rest of the family will get haircuts long before I do. You could add: if you buy those three pair of jeans at a consignment or thrift store!
I’m definitely a frugal mom then…actually I’m a pretty frugal wife too since I give my husband his haircuts now so we don’t have to spend an extra $13 a month at SportsClips, hah! Anyone love the freebie dollars your kids get at HEB to use in the machine too??
Oh I am soooo ALL of these! Haha! I haven’t had a haircut in about 18 months either. So sad… I guess that’s how we make it on a single (pastor’s) salary.
Too funny! Whenever someone comments on one of my children’s outfits, I always reply with how much it cost. I have to brag about the great deal that I got. I cannot help it. I am proud of my 5o cent shirt from a garage sale. I am proud that I have not paid more than $5.00 for a pair of kids shoes in over a year. I want the world to know. Yes, I am a frugal mom!
Oh this is too funny! I guess I am definitely a frugal mama according to this list!
Coupons and CVSing–and skipping the haircuts!
I enjoyed your blog. I’m an older mom who can identify with being short on time and money when your children are small. For the past couple of days I’ve been giving frugal ideas for Easter crafts and recipes…thought you might enjoy them.
If I say that I was cross because, as a fairly new mother, I had misjudged how fast my son would grow out of his clothes and actually had to buy some new baby grows rather than getting everything second hand at the (six monthly) nearly new sales we have in the uk, or at car boot sales (which were inexplicably empty of baby clothes at the time) can I join?
Plus I went 18 months without a haircut and only cracked because my son was using it as a rope to pull himself into a more comfortable position.
